Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the brief program of family education in helping families of schizophrenicpatients. A quasi-experimental pre-post design was used to assess the effects of the program.
The program that used for brief program was based on family education programs developed by Kim, C.K.(1993), Sohn, M.J. and Bae, J.K.(1995) and Sohn, J.W. et. al.(1996) and reconstructed by author.
The effectiveness of the program in terms of the rejection feeling to patient was investigated through PRS(patient rejection scale) developed by Kreisman et.al. and knowledge questionnaire developed by Sohn, J.W. et. al. A total of 8 . schizophrenic patients family care providers participated in the study. The program was performed 6 times, once a week, and 2 hours a time, in the fashion of lectures and free discussing among the multiple family groups from July 20 to August 24, 1999.
The result of this study is summarized as follows :
1. The brief program was effective in reducing families¢¥ patient rejection scale
2. The brief program was effective in improving families¢¥ knowledge scale
3. Together with this result, the necessity of the further study on the development and the application of family education program is strongly suggested
